Sources at the Egyptian cabinet said Thursday that Prime Minister Essam Sharaf has informed the military council that he has excluded Interior Minister Mansour al-Essawy from his cabinet reshuffle after the latter agreed to remove 505 police leaders from service, due to allegations about their involvement in the killing of demonstrators during the 25 January revolution.
Sharaf also proposed the appointment of two deputies for Essawy, in order to help him restore order to the streets.
Thousands of protesters have been staging open sit-ins across the country since 8 July, demanding reform in the interior ministry and the dismissal of Essawy for failing to implement it.
