Cairo University students reject Nazif’s return to campus

A number of student movements have rejected the return of Ahmed Nazif, Hosni Mubarak’s prime minister, to his teaching post at Cairo University’s Faculty of Engineering.

“Education is not a mere learning process,” said Mahmoud Omar, a member of the Strong Egypt Movement. “A professor should be seen by students as a mentor.”

They said that this enables the remnants of the Mubarak regime to control state institutions once again.

“Will he be neutral or will he direct the students against the new regime?” wondered Lotfy al-Sayed of the April 6 Movement.
