The coalition of the 25 January Revolution called on citizens to stage a million-man demonstration in Tahrir Square on Friday to topple Ahmed Shafiq’s caretaker government and appoint a cabinet of technocrats in its place.
“We had three million positive responses to calls for the demonstration on Facebook,” said coalition member Zeyad al-Aleemy. “What has exasperated was the new Interior Minister Mahmoud Wagdy’s statement that the demonstrators had started assaulting the police first.”
Other Facebook bloggers called for a counter demonstration on the same day to pay tribute to Mubarak’s services to the nation.
