Shimming eyes, matte mania, lashings of eyeliner, and sensational beauty looks from cinema’s most stunning redheads were among some of the most flashbulb friendly looks to emerge from Day 1 at Cannes.
Looking to one of the film industry’s glitziest events for beauty inspiration is something of a no-brainer. Day 1 at Cannes proved no exception, serving up its fair share of awe-inspiring makeup. Complexion-enhancing looks were the name of the game.
When it comes to base, stars rocked both matte and dewy skin. Flying the flag for on-trend matte mania, Chinese actress and member of the Feature Film jury Fan Bingbing flaunted a flawless, lightly powdered complexion, paired with highlighted brows and antique rose lipstick.
French-US actress and model Lily-Rose Depp opted for a sophisticated matte look. Chanel’s top makeup artist Sandrine Cano Bock emphasised Depp’s deep brown eyes with lashings of black eyeliner and a nude lip.
The contouring trend is still going strong, as demonstrated by influential models of the moment Bella Hadid and Emily Ratajkowski. Both beauties appeared chiselled and paparazzi-ready with just the right amount of ‘base to blush’ ratio.
Leaning on the latter end of the matte versus dewy debate, US actresses Julianne Moore and Jessica Chastain opted for glowy skin to complement their celtic skin tones. Chastain sported a statement jewel-tinted lipstick teamed with soft shimmering eye makeup, while Moore focused on liquid liner and natural-looking falsies with just a hint of pink to accentuate her lips.
Last but not least, mistress of ceremonies, Monica Bellucci wowed photographers with a post-facial like glow. The eyes had it for the Italian actress. Letizia Carnevale, among Bellucci’s favorite makeup artists, can take full credit for the star’s red carpet-ready glimmering smoky eye makeup, defined brows and natural pout which provided the perfect foil for her stunning two-tone Christian Dior evening gown.
