Central Auditing Organization (CAO) President Gawdat al-Malt decided to close down the headquarters building after protesters from the staff set fire to one of the floors.
“Such attempts will not prevent us from issuing reports exposing corruption and the squandering of state-funds by members of the former regime,” al-Malt said.
The fire was set on Wednesday on the second floor in a room close to the electrical unit chamber.
Firefighters managed to control the fire. No casualties were reported.
The CAO has submitted to the attorney general 18 reports on corruption by former officials.
