CAPMAS: Patents granted to Egyptians decline by 23.3% in 2014

The number of patents granted to Egyptians by the Egyptian Patent Office in accordance with international conventions reached 66 in 2014, compared to 86 in 2013, which amounts to a 23.3 percent decline, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) reported.
 
Meanwhile, the total number of patents granted to Egyptians and foreigners by the Egyptian Patent Office reached 415 in 2014. 31.6 percent of them were awarded in the field of chemistry and metals, followed by humanitarian needs (17.1 percent), and transport (15.2 percent), CAPMAS explained.
 
Moreover, the number trademark requests reached 13,511 in 2014, compared to 12,617 in 2013, an increase of 7.1 percent. 10,062 requests have been anwered positively, which represents 74.5% of the total number of applications submitted in 2014 , compared to 9,254 applications in 2013, an increase of 8.7 percent, CAPMAS said .
