Car accidents
The number of car accidents during the first half of 2015 rose by 3.5 percent for a total of 6,916 accidents, compared with 6,685 accidents in the same period of 2014.
The number of deaths, however, decreased by 2.7 percent, from 3,025 to 2,808 deaths during the first half of 2015.
The number of injured also decreased by 19.1 percent, from 11,060 to 8,946.
The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics said in a report issued on Monday that vehicle and train accidents during the first half of 2015, as well as the seriousness rate of the accidents dropped from 2.1 deceased or injured per accident to 1.7 deceased or injured per accident.
The cruelty rate of accidents increased from 27.4 deaths per every 100 injured victims, to 31.4 deaths per 100 injured victims, according to the report.
The number of accidents on highways reached 912, equal to 13.2 percent of the total number of car accidents. The largest number of accidents on the highways occurred on the Cairo-Alexandria Agricultural Road, for a total of 120 accidents.
The most serious accidents occurred in Suez and Fayoum, with 3.6 deaths or injured for each accident. The least serious accidents were in Daqahlia.
The highest cruelty rate of accidents was recorded in Damietta with 95.2 deaths per every 100 injured victims.
The rate of international car accident victims was 3 percent of the total number of victims, according to the report.
Train accidents
The number of train accidents increased from 461 to 640 accidents, equal to 38.8 percent during the first half of 2015, compared to the same period in 2014.
The number of deaths increased from 14 to 42 dead, equal to a 200 percent increase.
The number of injured rose from 22 to 89, equal to a 304.5 percent increase.
The highest number of train accidents were in Lower Egypt with 227 accidents, followed by Upper Egypt with 205 accidents. The smallest number of train accidents was recorded in the central Egypt region with 158 accidents.
