Case against two judges accused of insulting military dismissed

Egypt's Supreme Judicial Council on Saturday decided to dismiss a case against two judges accused of insulting the military judiciary.

After a meeting to discuss the complaint, which was filed by the military court, the council released a statement saying it decided to dismiss the case when it became clear that "the two judges did not mean to offend the military judiciary, as they respect and appreciate the military jurisdiction."

The complaint was filed against judges Alaa al-Din Soliman and Shawky Hassan al-Naggar after they made statements to the press disparaging the military judiciary.

The council said the judges were interrogated in the Ministry of Justice, and dismissed the case in order to maintain good relations between the civilian and military judiciaries.

Human rights organizations have condemned the incident and asked that the independence of the judiciary be respected.
