A Misdemeanor court recused itself from considering a lawsuit on Monday accusing deposed president Mohamed Morsy of adopting an “illusionary” platform as a candidate in the 2012 presidential elections.
The Borg al-Arab Misdemeanor Court cited lack of jurisdiction in relation to the petition filed by lawyer Samir Sabry, who accused Morsy of failing to materialize promises made in his “Renaissance Project.”
“The ousted president, through his platform, had managed to falsely convince Egyptians that his rule will be one of prosperity, freedom, dignity, economic growth, protection of human and women rights, and that he would be a president for all Egyptians disregarding their affiliations”, the petition said. “Those claims, however, had proven to be lies or even worse”.
The lawyer accused Morsy of committing criminal acts before and after his period in office, such as “backing terrorist activities, insulting the judiciary, incitement against Copts, and seizing public funds.” He provided what he described as evidence to those accusations.
