Clashes occur Sunday between MB protesters, police

A soldier was injured Sunday in Alexandria after unidentified attackers threw Molotov cocktails on a police car in al-Awayed Square, east Alexandria, said a statement by Alexandria Security Directorate.

In the statement, investigators claimed one of the arrested suspects was affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood.

The driver of the police vehicle suffered multiple injuries.

Meanwhile, clashes broke out in al-Maymoun village in Beni Suef Sunday between families of arrested MB supporters and families of criminal defendants on one side and security forces on the other.

The MB defendants were arrested this week for allegedly burning al-Wasty police station after the dispersal of Rabaa and Nahda sit-ins in August 2013.

Families of the defendants allegedly blocked Cairo-Aswan road and threw Molotov cocktails and fireworks at the local council's building. They took refuge at the al-Nowaishy school wall as police allegedly threw tear gas at them.

A policeman was injured and transferred to Beni Suef public hospital.

Six protesters were arrested on Sunday.
