Conferences hosted in Aswan contributed to raising the hotel occupancy rate in the province to 60 percent, said Aswan Governor Major General Magdy Hegazy on Wednesday.
Hegazy added, during the ninth Annual Scientific Conference of Obstetrics and Gynecology, organized in Aswan by the Faculty of Medicine at Sohag University in cooperation with Aswan University, that similar conferences contribute to increasing the flow of tourists to Aswan and raise hotel occupancy rates.
Egypt's tourism sector has been suffering due to political unrest stemming from the January 25, 2011 uprising that toppled former President Hosni Mubarak. The latest blow to tourism came after a Russian passenger plane crashed in Sinai in October 2015, causing several airlines to suspend flights to the country.
