The Secretary-General of the Executive Council of the Conservative Party Mohamed Amin said that there is a strong desire among party members to nominate the party’s president Akmal Kortam in the upcoming presidential elections, thanks to his strong political stances.
“Kortam is the ideal candidate for the Conservative Party to run in the upcoming presidential elections,” Amin added during a phone-in with TV host Amr Adib on his show “al-Hekaya” (The Story), on MBC Masr.
“We have a presidential council that represents the bodies of the Conservative Party, and they demanded guarantees to run in the presidential elections, and these guarantees were presented to the Civil Democratic Movement in advance,” he said.
Amin explained that these guarantees, “Are a real atmosphere for elections, and amendment to the National Elections Authority.”
He continued, “If guarantees are available, we will nominate Kortam for the presidential elections, and by the end, his desire will judge on the matter.”
Amin emphasized that they were able to collect 25,000 powers of attorney within a week, which are needed for a candidate to run in the elections.
The General coordinator of the National Dialogue Diaa Rashwan on Sunday explained that the procedures for the Egyptian presidential elections are held at least 120 days before the end of the current presidential term.
Thus, he noted that if 120 days are calculated from April 2, this will mean that the door for candidacy opens on December 3 and is not permissible after that.
Article 140 of the constitution stipulates that the Egyptian presidential election procedures must begin at least 120 days before the end of the presidential term, and the results must be announced at least 30 days before the end of this period.
