Consultant offices to hand down technical studies on Renaissance Dam 20 November

Ahmed Bahaa Eddin, head of Agriculture Ministry’s Nile Water sector, said that international consultant offices nominated to carry out technical studies over the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam started preparing the financial and technical offers for required studies, within conditions agreed on by Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia during a meeting in Cairo last month.

Proposed offers will be accepted until 20 November, according to the timeline made by experts in the meeting, Bahaa Eddin said on Friday.

Alaa Yassin, agriculture minister adviser for Dams and Nile Basin, said the national committee on the Renaissance Dam will hold the third session of meetings in Khartoum in December to review the offers by consultant offices to evaluate them and select one or two of them, then declare the name of the winning office, which will carry out the two supplementary studies over the Dam.

"By mid-December, it will be contracted with the selected consultant office in the Ethiopian Dam of Addis Ababa," Yassin said. "The office will start working on the study within five months."

"The international expert who will judge during the Khartoum meeting has been named," Yassin added. He has been instructed to separate between members of the committee in case technical issues erupted when the final report is issued by the international office within two weeks after the studies are concluded. It has been agreed that the three countries respect the viewpoint of the international expert.
