Coptic Orthodox Church to air Day of Resurrection mass on television

The Coptic Orthodox Church announced that the church will celebrate the Day of Resurrection on Sunday by broadcasting Sunday’s mass — headed by Pope Tawadros II — via Coptic satellite TV channels, as well as on the Church’s official Facebook page.

The decision is a response to the current ban on collective worship in Egypt, part of the precautionary measures put in place to help curb the spread of coronavirus.

Ibrahim Ishaq, Patriarch of Alexandria for the Coptic Catholics, said in his sermon on Thursday, “At this time we cannot celebrate together as a visible community, so let us do it [at home], with the family, so that we can start our ecclesiastical path, later on, with determination and a renewed spirit.”

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly sent a congratulatory cable to Pope Tawadros II and Coptic Christians on the occasion of the Day of Resurrection Day.

In his message, Madbouly wished the Copts and Egypt peace, love, safety and stability.

This is not the Coptic Church’s only effort to combat the virus.

Saint Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Alexandria recently distributed 1,000 bags, each containing bleach, alcohol, gloves and face masks to neighborhood residents, shop owners, and police and government employees in the area.
