Court accepts appeal of Aboutrika and others over including them on Egypt’s terrorist list

The Court of Cassation on Saturday ruled to accept the appeal of 1,500 defendants who were previously placed on terrorism lists, banned from travel, placed on watch lists and had their liquid and movable funds seized.

The court moved to reconsider the decision before the Criminal Court.

The decision includes former national team player Mohamed Aboutrika, and some leaders of the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood group.

Up to 121 defendants, including the two daughters of Youssef al-Qaradawi, and former Cairo University political science professor Bakinam al-Sharqawi, filed an appeal before the Court of Cassation against a previous decision by the Criminal Court placing them on the terrorist list.

The Court of Cassation accepted the appeal for the appellants and non-appellants, so that the decision will be reconsidered before another circuit of the Criminal Court.
