Court closes down Al Jazeera Mubasher Egypt for prejudiced reporting

The Administrative Judicial Court has issued a ruling obliging Nilesat company to stop broadcasting Al Jazeera Mubasher Egypt.

In its rationale, the court said the channel has blatantly deviated from neutrality, betrayed the media code of honor and broadcasted lies "after the revolution against the Muslim Brotherhood in 30 June 2013, claiming that it was set and directed by filmmakers, that the crowds that took to the streets on that day were but a few people who do not represent the whole population and that it was a military coup and not a popular revolution."

It also said the channel broadcast incorrect and false information in order to drive a wedge between the people and the army, tarnish the image of the great Egyptian army and encourage mercenaries in Sinai to attack army and police personnel.

Furthermore, the channel insulted judges, engineers, lawyers and others and broadcasted false pictures of dead Syrian children, claiming they were Egyptians killed by the army.

It added that the channel provoked foreign bodies against Egypt in a manner detrimental to national security.

In June, the court sentenced 11 correspondents, including three foreigners, to 10 years in prison in absentia, and seven others, including a foreigner, to seven years in prison over charges of incitement against Egypt by broadcasting false news.
