Cairo Criminal Court sentenced Mohsen al-Sokkary, a former officer of the disbanded State Security Investigation Services, to three years in prison on money laundering charges Thursday.
Sokkary is already serving a life sentence for involvement in the murder of Lebanese singer Suzanne Tamim.
The court on Thursday fined him several million US dollars for laundering money that he had been paid to murder Tamim through his company, VIP, judicial sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm.
Former lawmaker and real estate developer Hesham Talaat Mostafa paid Sokkary around US$2 million to kill his girlfriend Tamim in 2008.
Sokkary was arrested in August 2008 in Cairo, days after Tamim was found dead in her apartment in Dubai. Mostafa was arrested several weeks later.
Mostafa was sentenced to death in May 2009, but his sentence was reduced to 15 years in prison upon appeal.
