Court fines, imprisons YouTuber over ‘insulting and slandering’ Mona Zaki

The Economic Court announced the reasoning behind its ruling to punish YouTuber Ahmed Wageh with a one month prison sentence, a fine of LE 20,000, and a bail of LE5,000 over insulting and defaming actress Mona Zaki due to the movie “Perfect Strangers (2022)”.

The court said that it was proven that the defendant insulted and slandered Zaki on his YouTube account.

It stated: “The defendant deliberately harassed the victim by misusing communications devices, and it was clear from the Public Prosecution’s transcribing of the video clip submitted by the complainant that it was proven to contain expressions of insult and defamation.”

The court added that the clip contains phrases that harm Zaki’s reputation, defame her honor, as well as insult the artistic community.

Zaki’s lawyer Shaaban Saeed submitted a report to the Public Prosecutor against the defendant, accusing him of slandering the actress in a YouTube video.

“Perfect Strangers” caused a stir after its release.

The comedy-drama film is directed by Wissam Samira and starring Mona Zaki, Iyad Nassar, Adel Karam, Nadine Labaki, George Khabbaz, and Fouad Yammine.

Based on the Italian film “Perfetti Sconosciuti” (2016), it was produced by three companies from Lebanon, Egypt and the UAE and filmed in Beirut.
