Cairo's Court of Cassation turned down the appeal submitted by Alaa Abdel Fattah, his sister Mona Seif and three other defendants against the one-year suspended prison sentence they had received in January 2014 from Giza Criminal Court over charges of torching the electoral headquarters of former Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq.
The case was referred by the former prosecutor to the criminal court, even though Shafiq had waived the lawsuit.
The defendants also faced charges of violence, damaging and torching public property and robbery.
