Court releases police officer accused of killing Sayed Bilal

On Monday, Alexandria Criminal Court released police officer Abdel Rahman Al-Shimy of the former State Security Apparatus after an appeals court accepted his life sentence appeal.

Al-Shimy is accused of torturing and killing Sayed Bilal, a young man who was arrested after the Qedeseen Church church bombing weeks before the 25 January 2011 revolution that toppled President Hosni Mubarak.
