Court resumes indecency case against actress

Qasr al-Nil Misdemeanor Court resumes sessions Wednesday in a lawsuit filed against actress Elham Shaheen alleging that her films broadcast indecency.

The court had earlier postponed the lawsuit due to the suspension of work in courts after President Mohamed Morsy’s controversial November declaration.

The complainants argued that Shaheen’s work contained many indecent shots that would incite obscenity in society.

However, Shaheen’s defense team rebutted that actors are only tools in artistic works, and the writers and directors are responsible for content. They added that the movies were approved by a censor, arguing that the lawsuit is part of an Islamist campaign against artists.
