Court sentences 59 to 3-10 years in 2014 referendum violence

Sohag’s criminal court sentenced on Thursday 59 allegedly loyal to former president Mohamed Morsi to 3-10 years over involvement in violence in January 2014.

The defendants are accused of riots and violence towards police forces in the neighborhood of Al-Zahraa during the referendum on Egypt’s Constitution, which the Brotherhood considered illegitimate.

The violence had left four dead and two police officers wounded with live bullets.
