Supreme Constitutional Court head Judge Maher al-Beheiry scheduled a session on 2 December to consider a lawsuit demanding the dissolution of Egypt’s upper house of Parliament, the Shura Council.
The lawsuit challenges the constitutionality of the law regulating the council’s elections, which ended in March.
A report by the court’s board of commissioners had deemed the law unconstitutional.
A lawyer had raised the case before the Supreme Administrative Court before it was referred to the SCC, in which he argued that the election law did not grant candidates equal opportunities by allowing partisan candidates to vie for seats allocated for independents.
An earlier SCC ruling in June had dissolved the lower house, the People’s Assembly, for the same reason.
