The Cairo Criminal Court rejected on Monday the public prosecutor's appeal against the release of two police officers accused of torturing lawyer Karim Hamdy to death at the Matareya Police Station.
The court upheld its decision to release the officers on a LE10,000 bail issued on Saturday.
Prosecutors charged the two defendants with torturing Hamdy to death while questioning him over charges of possessing arms, protesting against the military and the police, and having links to a terrorist cell.
An inspection of the victim's body revealed scattered bruises on his chest, neck and face, after which an autopsy was requested.
