Court withholds previous verdict against seven activists for violating protest law

Mansheyya Misdemeanor Court of Appeals in Alexandria upheld verdict sentencing seven activists, including April 6 Movement members, to two years in prison and fining each LE50,000 for violating the protest law.

The detained suspects Loay al-Qahwagy, Omar Hafez, Naser Abul Hamd and Islam Mohammadein, who were arrested during protest, attended the court session, while activists Hassan Mostafa, Mahinour al-Masry and Moussa Hussein were sentence in absentia.

The previous verdict was given by an Alexandria court over accusations of blocking the road, rioting and insulting police during the trial of Khaled Saeed on 2 December, and violating the protest law, which requires prior-authorization to hold a demonstration.
