The curfew introduced by the presidency in North Sinai following terrorist attacks in late 2014 will be reduced in order for citizens to be able to perform Eid al-Fitr prayers, the Islamic holiday which lasts Friday to Sunday.
Amin Abdel Waged, head of the Ministry of Endowments in the restive province, said on Tuesday that the Cabinet had approved to reduce curfew hours just for Friday to end at 5 am instead of 6 am.
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi ordered a curfew in North Sinai for a preiod of three months, starting in October 2014, after a deadly attack that killed at least 31 soldiers. The curfew was extended twice, for a period of three months each time.
Sinai has seen deadly attacks perpetrated by extremist groups since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
