Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received a phone call on Saturday from Cyprus President Nicos Christodoulides.
An Egyptian Presidency statement said the call addressed developments in the Middle East, most notably the agreement reached in Sharm El-Sheikh to cease the war in Gaza Strip.
The Cypriot president expressed his country’s full welcome of this agreement, affirming his country’s support for its implementation.
He praised the vital role played by Egypt and President Sisi’s personal efforts in facilitating its conclusion.
The two leaders reviewed the most important aspects and details of the agreement, stressing its importance in stopping the war, releasing hostages and detainees, securing the entry of humanitarian aid, and initiating the Gaza Strip’s reconstruction process.
Sisi further emphasized the necessity of fully implementing the agreement’s provisions, noting that Egypt has made continuous efforts over the past two years – in coordination with Qatar and the US- to end the war and alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.
Agreement on Gaza reconstruction
President Sisi extended an invitation towards his Cypriot counterpart to participate in the celebration to be held in Egypt marking the conclusion of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
He also called on deploying international forces in the Gaza Strip and the importance of granting international legitimacy to the agreement reached through the Security Council.
The two presidents also emphasized the need to begin the immediate reconstruction process in the Gaza Strip.
President Sisi indicated his nation’s intention to host an international conference for early recovery and reconstruction, a move which the Cypriot President welcomed.
The call also addressed the distinguished bilateral relations between Egypt and Cyprus, with the two presidents discussing ways to enhance cooperation between both countries in the political, trade, and investment fields.
And both presidents agreed to build on the outcomes of the summit held between them in January, contributing to expanding cooperation in areas of tourism, construction, agriculture, and other sectors of common interest.
