Dar Al Iftaa, headed by Egypt’s Grand Mufti Shawky Allam, will check the crescent of the month of Shawwal for the year 1444 AH, on Thursday, April 20, to determine the first day of Eid al-Fitr.
Dar Al Iftaa will announce the result of the survey on its official page on Facebook, about half an hour after sunset.
Gad al-Qadi, head of the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG), has already confirmed that, according to astronomical calculations, the crescent of the month of Shawwal will be visible on Thursday.
The solar eclipse that is expected to occur on Thursday, 29 Ramadan , April 20, is a clear sign of the birth of the crescent of the month of Shawwal.
He pointed out that the eclipse will not be seen in the Arab region or the Middle East.
The crescent of the month of Shawwal will be born immediately after the conjunction at 6:14 am, Cairo time, on Thursday, Ramadan 29, corresponding to April 20, said Qadi.
The new crescent will remain in the sky of Cairo for a period of 27 minutes after sunset on Thursday, and for periods ranging between 24 and 29 minutes in the rest of governorates.
