The Democratic Coalition, which includes more than 40 political parties, has proposed to the Egyptian Bloc, a coalition of 11 parties and four movements, to combine their parties' candidate lists for 30 percent of the parliamentary seats in the upcoming elections.
Amr Hamzawy, the only bloc member to attend the meeting with the Democratic Coalition on Monday, said he would consider the offer.
The Muslim Brotherhood, whose party is a member of the coalition, intended to run for 30 percent of the seats alone. But the new elections law ban parties from competing over individual seats, hence reducing its chances of winning a majority, irrespective of whether the bloc accepts or declines the offer.
