The growing diesel crisis in Kafr al-Sheikh Governorate has forced some 300 fishing boats from the water, say local fishermen.
On Tuesday, Captain Ahmed Abdo Nassar said hundreds in the communities of Borg Moghaizel, Al-Gazira al-Khadra, Burullus, Rashid and other areas were forced to hang up their fishing lines until they can get fuel again.
Many of the communities are also struggling to provide fuel for vehicles, leading to long lineups at gas stations.
Farmers are struggling for enough fuel to power irrigation systems as well, he added.
Nassar called for officials to fix the problem as the livelihood of thousands of fishermen depend on diesel.
