The Diocese of the Virgin Mary in Beni Suef issued a statement about the fire that broke out at its headquarters late Saturday evening.
“A fire broke out in the marquee adjacent to the Church of the Virgin Mary, in the church courtyard, resulting in significant damages,” the statement reads.
It confirmed that there were no casualties and that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
Beni Suef Governor Mohamed Hani Ghoneim moved to the accident site, accompanied by the Beni Suef Security Director and security and executive leaders, immediately after receiving the report of the fire.
Ghoneim followed up on the efforts and procedures to control a fire on the ground floor of a service building affiliated with the Diocese building.
Fire engines were dispatched to Beni Suef, and they were able to successfully control and extinguish the fire without any loss of life.
Cooling operations were carried out to prevent the fire from recurring again in the church located in a vital area.
The governor checked on the parishioners of the church and all those present in it, headed by Bishop Gabriel, Bishop of the Diocese, and reassured them that all precautionary measures had been taken.
The governor also assured that the necessary measures had been taken around the area where the church is located.
