Dismissed members of the Egyptian Federation of Trade Unions (EFTU) have threatened to resort to the International Labor Organization (ILO) and lodge a complaint against Labor and Immigration MInister Kamal Abu Eita for interfering in the affairs of the union.
They said that they would present a CD revealing the minister’s scheme to dominate the union.
A union official said the minister forced the union to accept independent trade union members who were illegally appointed: Khaled Shaaban as secretary general, and his colleague Emad al-Araby as assistant secretary general.
The official also said that the minister insisted that the union’s board of directors comprise 31 members in violation of the law, wondering how could there be 24 unions and 31 board members.
He added that this enables the minister to dissolve the union at any time.
He also said that there is discontent within the union due to the new formation, and that the board of directors is divided into groups that work for their own interests.
