Disney selects Mohamed Diab to direct Marvel’s ‘Moon Knight’ series

Disney has chosen Egyptian director Mohamed Diab to direct Marvel’s new Disney Plus series “Moon Knight”, according to the online news website Deadline.

Although Disney has not yet officially announced this information, the website confirmed that Diab has selected Oscar Isaac to play the main character, Moon Knight aka Marc Spector, one of Marvel’s most famous characters since the 1970s.

The story follows Spector, who is a retired mercenary, CIA agent, and boxer. During a mission in Egypt, he almost dies and discovers a pharaonic tomb containing a statue of the moon god of the pharaohs “Kunshu”, who offers him a second chance at life with special powers.

Diab’s international fame began with the screening of his film “Eshtebak” (Clash) at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016. He has since written and directed many films, including “Al-Gezeira” (The Island), “Cairo 6,7,8”, and the TV series “Tayea” and “al-Seham al-Mariqa” (Rogue Arrows).

The production schedule and release dates have yet to be announced.
