The Ecumenical Alliance for Human Rights and Development (EAHRD) was granted on Monday a consultative status by the The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), which is currently holding its session in New York until June 3.
Ayman Nassry, executive director of the Alliance, said the consultative status will allow for participating in a range of UN-funded development programs against poverty, unemployment and child labor.
The Alliance, according to Nassry, applied for the status two years ago. It now has the right to take part in meetings of ECOSOC, UN conferences and consultations with other international organizations
According to Nassry, EAHRD focuses on human rights issues in Egypt and the Middle East, through organizing symposia reviewing different viewpoints in a politically neutral manner.
