The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced on Tuesday that it has lost around LE2 million since the Egyptian league, Egyptian Cup and Super Cup were all cancelled.
The competitions were all cancelled indefinitely amid growing security concerns after 30 June protests demanding early presidential elections, causing the EFA to lose out on approximately $285,000.
Mahmoud al-Shamy, a member of the association's board of directors, told a board meeting on Tuesday that a LE2-million gap between revenues and expenditures became clear during discussions with auditors over the organization's budget.
The EFA demanded the ddevelopment of a roadmap for Egyptian football after an international fixture against Guinea on 10 September, in the final qualifying round for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
In the roadmap, the EFA demanded setting a deadline to start the 2013/2014 football season.
Shamy stated that the EFA will coordinate with the ministries of defense, interior, and sports, in addition to private football clubs, before moving ahead.
It was vital for sporting activities to be resumed as soon as possible to revive Egyptian football, he stressed.
The Egyptian Football Association had decided on 14 July to cancel both the Egyptian League, and the Cup of Egypt competition, after the Interior Ministry warned that security forces would be unable to secure stadiums on match days.
