Egypt and Libya agreed on Friday that Egypt will facilitate the re-opening of currently suspended Libyan factories.
The agreement came during a meeting between officials of the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) in Egypt and Libyan Ministers, on the sidelines of a visit to Cairo by Prime Minister of the Libyan Government of National Unity, Abdel Hamid al-Dabaiba.
Under the agreement, an Egyptian-Libyan committee will form to lend Egypt’s skill, expertise, and technology in manufacturing to Libya. Additionally, experts from AOI will be sent to the factories to handle the reopening.
AOI Chairman Abdel Moneim al-Tarras discussed with the Libyan Minister of Industry and Minerals Ahmed Omar, and the Libyan Minister of Economy and Trade Mohamed al-Hawij, ways in which the two countries could enhance joint cooperation and investment opportunities.
Tarras expressed his authority’s readiness to equip Libya with its most advanced manufacturing capabilities and to participate in development projects around the country.
Similarly, the Libyan ministers praised AOI’s long history in the Arab region and highly developed manufacturing skills.
According to the ministers, a number of Libyan companies and investors are eager to enhance cooperation with the AOI.
In a related context, Egyptian Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed discussed with her Libyan counterpart Ali al-Zanati a partnership between the two countries in the fields of professional training, rehabilitation, and medical center management.
The agreement also touches on the treatment of Libyans in Egyptian government hospitals.
