Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation al-Sayyed al-Qusair said that the government aims to reclaim and cultivate nearly 2.2 million new acres of agricultural land.
During an interview with Ahmed Moussa’s TV show “Ala Massoulity” (On My Responsibility) on the privately-owned satellite channel Sada al- Balad, Qusair explained that the horizontal agricultural expansion projects are directed towards food security.
“If we did not have these huge agricultural projects, we would have suffered,” he said.
The Minister of Agriculture assured that the government is eager to plant more strategic crops.
Qusair added that Egypt has full availability of all commodities, and that the Future of Egypt Project for agricultural production will further increase the nation’s agricultural capabilities.
The Minister of Agriculture indicated that there are great efforts being made in the Future of Egypt project, and that it resorted to many alternatives to cultivate national projects.
He explained that the water share in Egypt has not changed since the era of Muhammad Ali, and the state has resorted to many alternatives to cultivate national projects.
Qusair stressed that the wastage rate in new agricultural projects is very low, and the government use modern mechanization in agriculture to monitor the crop.
