The trial of Egypt's former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly will be broadcast live on Monday, according to Egypt's state-run TV news department head, Ibrahim al-Sayyad.
Adly is facing charges of ordering the murder of pro-democracy protesters during the 25 January revolution, which forced former President Hosni Mubarak to resign in February.
He had previously been sentenced to twelve years for charges of financial corruption.
A live broadcast crew has been formed to cover the event, Sayyad told Al-Masry Al-Youm. He said, however, that judges are entitled to prevent witnesses’ accounts and other content from being broadcast.
He added that the move aims to create transparency and inform citizens of the proceedings.
Sayyad revealed TV authorities’ readiness to air Mubarak's trial, scheduled for 3 August, as well as trials of former Shoura Council speaker Safwat al-Sherif, and former People's Assembly speaker, Fathi Sorour.
Egyptian TV aired the trial of former Information Minister Anas al-Fiqqi last week.
The Supreme Judicial Council had approved broadcasting trials live in response to growing demands by Egyptian protesters.
