Egypt and Uganda sign agreement on power investment

Egypt and Uganda on Monday signed a partnership agreement for investment in the field of power generation and distribution in Uganda worth US$1 billion.

The contract was signed in the presence of Egyptian Minister of Electricity Hassan Younis, the Ugandan Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, and 34 Egyptian representatives of Egyptian companies interested in investment in Uganda as well as a number of Ugandan businessmen and representatives of the Ugandan government.

In a statement to the press, Younis said Egypt supports the development of Uganda through the establishment of power grids and the development of Ugandan expertise.

The Ugandan minister vowed his country will clear all obstacles in the way and provide all necessary facilities to Egyptian companies.

The Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni, on Tuesday will receive Younis in Kampala. The Egyptian minister plans to deliver a letter from President Hosni Mubarak on ways of improving bilateral relations.
