Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced a significant natural gas discovery at the Nidoco N-2 exploratory well, located within the Nile Delta’s West Abu Madi concession in Kafr El-Sheikh.
Operated by Italy’s Eni in partnership with BP and Petrobel, the well is expected to contribute approximately 50 million cubic feet of gas per day to the national supply.
The project utilized advanced directional drilling technology, allowing the EDC 56 rig to reach shallow offshore deposits from a land-based position.
This approach not only enhanced operational efficiency but also significantly lowered production costs.
Due to its proximity to existing infrastructure—located less than two kilometers from current facilities—the ministry expects the well to be linked to the national grid and commence early production within the coming weeks.
The West Abu Madi development area is operated by Eni, in partnership with BP and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), through Petrobel—a joint venture between the EGPC and Eni.
