Egypt awaits final approval on fourth tranche of IMF loan

Informed sources said on Saturday that the date of the meeting of the Executive Directors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the US capital, Washington, will be determined soon.

The spokesperson for the IMF Julie Kozack said on Friday that the Executive Board of the Fund is expected to discuss the fourth review of Egypt’s program in the coming weeks.

Kozack’s statements came during the meeting of the Executive Board of the Fund to discuss the fourth review of the program, after the IMF’s expert mission announced it had reached an agreement with the Egyptian authorities regarding the review on December 24.

According to Kozack the Executive Board will discuss the reform package for financing resilience and sustainability for Egypt, in conjunction with discussing the fourth review.

She added: “It is not possible now to determine the value of the financing that Egypt will receive under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility.”

According to recent data from the IMF, Egypt must pay US$661.6 million to the fund during the current month, and the amount required to be paid for January amounted to about $252.6 million, or a total of about $914.2 million during the first two months of 2025.

This comes as the government awaits Egypt’s inclusion on the IMF’s Executive Board’s agenda to approve the disbursement of the fourth tranche, amounting to $1.2 billion, after reaching an agreement at the expert level about 40 days ago.

The Head of the Planning and Budget Committee in the House of Representatives and a former IMF expert Fakhry al-Fiqi explained that the approval of the loan was delayed, and the government had previously expected the fourth tranche of the loan to be disbursed before the end of January.

Dubai will also witness the annual meeting between the International Monetary Fund and the Arab Monetary Fund, and the governments summit on Tuesday and Wednesday.
