Egypt called for a ceasefire in Sudan and the implementation of a comprehensive humanitarian truce, in order to launch a sustainable political process that guarantees the unity of Sudan.
The Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, affirmed the Sudanese state’s determination to eliminate the rebel militia, calling on those capable of bearing arms to join the ranks defending the homeland.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and the Senior Advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos spoke by phone on Saturday to discuss developments in Sudan.
Abdelatty reiterated the importance of a ceasefire and creating the conditions for a comprehensive political process that preserves Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and stability.
He also called for concerted regional and international efforts to support the Sudanese people and their national institutions.
He emphasized the importance of implementing the Quartet’s statement on Sudan in its entirety, including achieving a comprehensive humanitarian truce.
