Egypt closes 9 tourist facilities for violating COVID-19 measures

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in Egypt announced Friday, that it has closed nine tourist facilities for failing to comply with the precautionary measure against the coronavirus, accepting customers beyond prescribed limits which lead to crowding.

A statement by the ministry said that the Supervision of Hotel Facilities and Tourism Activities Sector has dispatched secret committees to inspect a number of these facilities.

The statement indicated that closed tourist facilities also provided shisha (Hookah) pipes, which have been banned under COVID-19 measures.

The Assistant Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for Supervising Hotel Establishments and Tourist Activities Abdel Fattah al-Asi explained that these secret committees come under the ministry’s role of following up establishments to ensure they are abiding by anti-coronavirus measures.

These committees will continue their sudden inspection of the facilities, he said, even during the holidays, and will take all necessary legal actions towards any violators.
