The Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Sunday deeply condemnation Israel’s recent escalation in Palestinian territories and the continued incursions by Israeli settlers into the al-Aqsa Mosque square under the protection of the Israeli police.
Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Hafez demanded to stop escalation immediately, especially during the month of Ramadan and the Christian and Jewish holidays, while not slipping into cycles of violence that prevent the desired stability and create tension leading to further conflicts.
Hafez stressed the importance of adhering to the rules of international law to provide due protection for Palestinian civilians, as well as stopping any practices that violate the sanctity of al-Aqsa Mosque and other religious sanctities and the identity of East Jerusalem.
The Israeli-Palestinian violence in Jerusalem last year led to the outbreak of the 11-day Gaza war and mass violence in mixed Israeli cities.
