Cairo International Airport Authorities on Wednesday deported 18 Ethiopian nationals to their home country. The detainees were arrested while attempting to infiltrate Israel through Sinai.
Accompanied security officers, the detainees arrived to the Cairo Airport by bus from the Red Sea security directorate. They boarded a plane heading to the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa.
Israel claims that approximately 10,000 Africans have illegally entered its borders via Egypt over the past few years.
International organizations accused Egypt of using excessive force on the detainees. In response, Egypt asserted its right to use force to protect its national security.
