Egypt exports to Turkey up 44% in 10 months: ministry

Egypt Trade and Industry Minister Tariq Qabil said on Saturday that Egyptian exports to Turkey significantly increased between January and October 2017, reaching $US1.657 billion compared to $1.149 billion during the same period last year, representing a total increase of 44.2 percent.

Qabil’s remarks came in a statement by the ministry on the indicators of trade between Egypt and Turkey during the first 10 months of this year.

The statement pointed to the decline in Egyptian imports from Turkey during the same period by 18.7 percent, which amounted to $1.8 billion compared to about $2.2 billion during the same period last year, bringing the total trade volume during the first 10 months of 2017 to $3.457 billion.

The statement pointed out that the increase in Egyptian exports to the Turkish market is due to the increase of Egyptian exports of methanol by 299.5 percent which reached approximately $93.5 million compared to about $23.4 million during the same period last year.

Egyptian exports of the urea fertilizer increased by 145.6 percent, reaching about $282 million compared to $114 million during the same period the last year. Exports of denim textiles increased by 57.8 percent reaching about $66.8 million compared to about $42.3 million during the same period last year.
