Egypt FM holds talks with Indonesian President

Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Friday met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry at the start of his current visit to Indonesia for the third leg of his Asian tour.

Shoukry handed him a message from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

The meeting touched on bilateral cooperation and joint cooperation frameworks between the two countries, in line with the aspirations of the two countries, as well as ongoing efforts to prepare for the 27th session of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), which Egypt is set to host in November.

Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Hafez said that Shoukry express Egypt’s desire to give more impetus to all aspects of relations between the two countries.

He also touched on the importance of continuing consultations between them in light of the desire to coordinate positions in line with the common interests between Egypt and Indonesia.

Shoukry started an Asian tour that includes Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Pakistan, on Sunday, within the framework of the distinguished relations that Egypt has with those friendly countries.

During the tour, Shoukry will hold meetings with counterparts and several officials to discuss ways to advance bilateral relations with Egypt in various fields, in addition to discussing topics and issues of common concern.

Shoukry will also discuss climate change issues, taking into account the upcoming Egyptian presidency of the COP27 session of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and Egypt’s keenness to consult and coordinate in this regard with various parties.

Shoukry is also scheduled to participate in the 48th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which will be held in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, on March 22-23.
