Egypt, France agree on need for ceasefire in Gaza

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi urged the necessity of stopping military operations in the Gaza Strip to protect civilians and deliver essential humanitarian aid without hindrance.

During a phone call on Friday he received from French President Emmanuel Macron, President Sisi agreed to intensify relevant joint efforts.

They also stressed the importance of avoiding anything that would expand the scope of conflict in the region, which requires consolidating regional stability.

Both leaders also stressed the need to work hard in advancing international efforts to settle the Palestinian issue in a fair and sustainable manner by implementing the two-state solution.

The spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, Ahmed Fahmy, said that the French President also congratulated President Sisi on his re-election for a new presidential term.

Macron assured that France would continue to strengthen its distinguished relations with Egypt, which President Sisi appreciated, stressing for his part the depth of Egyptian-French relations and the importance of continued efforts to strengthen them in all fields.
