Egypt's public prosecutor on Sunday ordered that the assets of 14 Muslim Brotherhood leaders, including its head Mohamed Badie, be frozen, judicial sources said.
Also included in the measure were his deputy, Khairat al-Shater, and the deputy head of the Brotherhood's political arm (the Freedom and Justice Party), Essam al-Erian, the sources added.
Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat on Sunday ordered the asset freeze against the backdrop of violence at Giza's Nahda Square, the Guidance Bureau in Moqattam and Republican Guard House.
Officials targeted by the asset freeze also include leading Brotherhood members Mohamed Ezzat and Rashad Baioumy, as well as Salafi preacher Safwat Hegazy and Mohamed al-Beltagy.
A range of Islamist leaders will also be affected, including Wasat Party vice Essam Sultan, Jama'a al-Islamiya Shura Council member Assem Abdel Maged, Salafi Raya Party leader Hazem Salah Abu Ismail, Jama'a al-Islamiya's Construction and Development Party spokesperson Tarek al-Zomor and former MP Mohamed al-Omda.
