The Illicit Gains Office (IGO), a judiciary office affiliated with the Ministry of Justice, decided Thursday to freeze the assets of former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly and his two wives.
An Egyptian court had earlier sentenced Adly to 12 years in jail on charges of seizing public funds and abusing power.
Adly is also accused of involvement in killing demonstrators during the January 25 revolution and creating a security vacuum that led to chaos during the revolution.
Many Egyptians consider Adly, who headed the Interior Ministry for nearly 14 years, a symbol of corruption and oppression. He left office in early February.
